ZEDRA Jersey has launched the ZEDRA Fiduciary Investment Fund. The Fund addresses a gap in the market for an investment solution built for trustees. The structure is highly innovative and offers reduced asset manager risk and reduced portfolio volatility.

The Fund is suitable for trustees wanting to ensure that trust assets are invested in a safe and secure fashion and benefit from best of breed investment management. The fund is an open-ended fund based in Jersey.

The innovative structure and design of the ZEDRA Fiduciary Investment Fund is the attraction for those charged with ensuring trust assets are invested in the most appropriate manner, with a focus on reducing manager risk and lowering costs. There are currently two sub-funds, both with a medium risk strategy with one aimed at total return investors and the other more considerate of generating a stable income flow, currently targeting a yield in excess of 3%. The sub-fund assets are managed by some of the best investment management houses in the marketplace, with each being appointed to meet the specific investment objective of the sub-fund.

Unlike other multi-manager funds, ZEDRA are not making any investment decisions or asset allocation calls; however, clients will profit from their manager selection expertise. Investors will benefit from a diversification of the management process and style as well as a diversified underlying portfolio. In addition, when appropriate, assets can be switched between managers within the ZEDRA Fiduciary Investment Fund, minimising transition costs. In some jurisdictions this may also be beneficial from a capital gains tax perspective.

Against a backdrop of regulatory and market pressures increasingly weighing on Jersey’s finance industry, the funds sector has continued to grow and attract new business helping the Island to maintain its reputation as a leading international finance centre. The new ZEDRA fund is more good news for Jersey and a sign of ZEDRA’s confidence in the jurisdiction.

Mike Farley, Managing Director of ZEDRA Fiduciary Investment Services, says:

‘The launch of the Fund is great news for ZEDRA and also for Jersey. We developed the Fund because we saw the need for an investment solution built for trustees, which isn’t constrained to one investment manager’s process where you are tied to a specific strategy and style.

‘If a trustee has £50 million to invest, you can allocate your financial assets between two or three different investment managers, to reduce manager risk, and still have sufficient assets with each manager to be able to negotiate competitive costs at the manager level. However, this is not so easy if your trust fund has £3 million or less to invest. This is where our new Fiduciary Investment Fund comes in: it allows trustees to reduce active manager risk and, in turn, portfolio volatility, but also benefits from lower ongoing management charges as the collective assets of the Fund are significant.

‘As ZEDRA is not making any active investment decisions, we have been able to price the Fund very competitively for our clients. History shows that minimising costs feeds directly through to performance and compounds into higher net returns.’

The ZEDRA Fiduciary Investment Fund is currently only available to clients of the ZEDRA Group and, more specifically, Sterling investors. However, Andy Cunningham, Director of ZEDRA Fund Services, added:

‘We have already seen a lot of interest in this innovative approach to managing fiduciary assets and anticipate launching a US Dollar version and also opening the fund to other service providers in due course. The appointment of individual investment managers today is becoming more and more expensive for trustees and can often be a reason why a trustee will stay with an underperforming manager rather than switch elsewhere – clearly not always the right solution for the trust and its beneficiaries. The ZEDRA Fiduciary Investment Fund overcomes this dilemma.’

Renowned local artist Jason Butler will open his first solo exhibition in two years in October 2018 in Jersey. The exhibition titled ‘Where Our Shadows Were’ has been sponsored by UBS Wealth Management, Jersey, and will open to the public from 3^rd to 27^th October.

This will be Jason Butler’s first solo exhibition since his highly acclaimed ‘Seekers’ show in 2016. The new body of work is comprised of a selection of small to large scale paintings. Jason’s fascination with the language of figurative painting, combined with his long-standing interest in abstraction, is at the centre of this series of work.

The exhibition will be held in his own Studio Gallery at 10 Commercial Buildings where the public will also be able to see Jason’s inspirational working environment. Large scale paintings will be hung in the main room, medium sized work will be displayed in the ‘Old Blue Room’ and the ‘Side Gallery’ will showcase smaller works.

Super League Triathlon (SLT), the new action-packed elite series is excited to announce Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) as the new title sponsor for the Championship event in Jersey this season. Taking place on 28-30 September, the newly titled RBC Super League Jersey event will see the biggest names in triathlon go head-to-head for victory in the season-long quest to be crowned Super League Triathlon Champion.

Jodie Stimpson, one of Britain’s brightest triathlete talents, has called upon women in Jersey and Guernsey to get involved in Super League Triathlon this year.  Four times more men than women have so far signed up for the Super League Triathlon Age Group category, which is open to everyone over 15 years of age.

The Super League Triathlon will take place in Jersey on 29^th and 30^th September 2018. It’s a major event on the world’s sporting stage, bringing 50 of the world’s best triathletes, including numerous Olympians, to the Island to complete. Alongside the professional races this year will be a chance for the public to also take part in the Age Group races. There are limited spaces and sign up is available now through the Super League Website.

Commonwealth Games gold medalist and runner up for the World Triathlon Series 2013, Jodie Stimpson, will be competing in Jersey in September 2018. She is a tough, super competitive and fearless triathlete that is inspiring women and girls all over Britain to embrace the sport.

Jodie wants more women in the Channel Islands to give the triathlon a try this year. She says: ‘For me I don’t think there are many other sports which are so welcoming no matter your gender or capability – from first timers to elites. It’s a special thing to share the love of triathlon, which I’m sure you will get addicted to once you have done just one!’

She continues: ‘I feel very lucky and extremely grateful that I get to do what I love the most every day, being able to have it as my career is the most precious thing. It’s of course a huge part of my life and in turn my family’s life but it gives us an amazing bond. I’ve seen some fantastic places and met some absolutely brilliant people. I have a huge extended family thanks to triathlon!’

Jodie caught the competitive bug from an early age. She joined Oldbury Swimming Club at just four years old and the triathlon seed was planted four years later. In 2014, Jodie won two gold medals at the Gold Commonwealth Games and finished 4th in the ITU World Triathlon Series. In 2013, she had her highest finish, coming second in the World Triathlon Series. Jodie came a very tight second in the first race of the World Triathlon Series in Abu Dhabi in March 2017 and has high ambitions for the 2018 season.

Islanders can race the same course as Jodie this year in the Super League Age Group races. They are open to all with individual men’s and women’s events, alongside thrilling mixed relays. People who are new to triathlon can try the Super Sprint race of a 400m swim, 10k bike and 2.5k run. Those who want to be even more ambitious can try the Enduro race, which does the same format twice and back to back. The individual and relay races will take place on the morning of Sunday 30th September giving the participants enough time to smash the course, get some recovery and settle in to watch the pros in the afternoon. Each participant will receive a Super League Triathlon goodie bag, finishers medal and be invited to attend an awards ceremony.

Matej Jurkic, KPMG in the Channel Islands Digital and Cyber Advisory Manager, has become the first SABSA Chartered Security Architect registered in the Channel Islands, having completed the Foundation Certificate (SCF).

The enterprise architecture qualification, SABSA, is used globally to develop and implement business-driven, risk and opportunity focused security architectures at both enterprise and solutions level.

Independent trust, corporate and fund services company ZEDRA has appointed Trust and Private Client specialist Henry Kierulf as Client Director.

Mr. Kierulf is a senior leadership professional with strategic and operational experience including acquisitions and integrations in Trust, Investments, Banking and Professional Services. He has significant experience providing Wealth Management and Fiduciary Services to global HNW families, advisors and corporations.

As Client Director at ZEDRA, he will lead a trust and corporate administration team, focusing on the development, maintenance and growth of a portfolio of private and corporate clients ensuring high levels of client service. Together with the other members of the senior leadership team, he will lead the client facing activity of the ZEDRA Jersey business, ensuring this is aligned to, and promotes, the business’ strategy and culture.

Mr. Kierulf is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance & Marketing. For the majority of his career he has held senior positions for an international trust company and bank working across multiple jurisdictions such as Barbados, the Cayman Islands, London and finally Jersey, where he was head of the Director and client service teams in the British Isles fiduciary business.
