Jason Butler to Open New Solo Exhibition

Renowned local artist Jason Butler will open his first solo exhibition in two years in October 2018 in Jersey. The exhibition titled Where Our Shadows Were’ has been sponsored by UBS Wealth Management, Jersey, and will open to the public from 3rd to 27th October.

This will be Jason Butler’s first solo exhibition since his highly acclaimed ‘Seekers’ show in 2016. The new body of work is comprised of a selection of small to large scale paintings. Jason’s fascination with the language of figurative painting, combined with his long-standing interest in abstraction, is at the centre of this series of work.

The exhibition will be held in his own Studio Gallery at 10 Commercial Buildings where the public will also be able to see Jason’s inspirational working environment. Large scale paintings will be hung in the main room, medium sized work will be displayed in the ‘Old Blue Room’ and the ‘Side Gallery’ will showcase smaller works.

Managing Director of jsvcPROJECTS, London, Jill Silverman Van Coenegrachts, writes in the exhibition catalogue:

‘…you ask yourself is he a figurative painter masking his desire to settle himself with his subjects or is he an abstract painter who is being torn away from his pleasure by characters that haunt him. Both things are true. These works are strident and without hesitation create an agitated surface tension that is nothing short of masterful.’

Jason Butler says:

‘I have been working consistently on this new body of work since my last exhibition ‘Seekers’ in 2016.  The work has become increasingly concerned with the surface quality of the paintings and certain changes have taken place through the process of making them over this period of time.

I am delighted to be opening the doors of my studio once again where the space has been converted to a functioning gallery. I am very much looking forward to meeting and talking to visitors to the exhibition.’

Michael Clarke, Head of Private Clients, UBS AG, Jersey, says:

‘We are proud to be sponsoring this exceptional exhibition by Jason Butler. UBS maintains one of the largest contemporary art collections in the world and we have a deep affinity and history with the world of art. We are pleased to be able to assist Jason in bringing his latest pieces to public view and we are highly impressed and inspired by his new collection.’

ROYAL BANK OF CANADA JOINS SUPER LEAGUE TRIATHLON AS TITLE SPONSOR IN JERSEY

Super League Triathlon (SLT), the new action-packed elite series is excited to announce Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) as the new title sponsor for the Championship event in Jersey this season. Taking place on 28-30 September, the newly titled RBC Super League Jersey event will see the biggest names in triathlon go head-to-head for victory in the season-long quest to be crowned Super League Triathlon Champion.

To mark the start of the SLT season, RBC will host the RBC Race for the Kids event – an occasion that brings the local community together with RBC employees, their families and friends, to raise money for Mind Jersey.

This will be the second time that Super League Triathlon visits Jersey, after a highly successful pilot weekend on the Island last year. SLT has committed to a five-year Jersey plan in order to create a legacy on the Island for the sport of triathlon, encouraging people of all ages to get involved, and hopefully creating superstars of the future. This commitment is part of a wider SLT ambition across the full Championship Series this year and seasons to come.

Beyond the professional-level racing that will see the likes of the Brownlee brothers, Flora Duffy, Richard Murray and Katie Zaferes take on a series of challenging formats, RBC Super League Jersey will also host a variety of Age Group races and a not-to-be-missed festival JT fanzone.

David Bailey, Head of Finance at RBC Wealth Management and keen triathlete himself, said: “On behalf of Royal Bank of Canada, we’re delighted to be the title sponsor of Super League Triathlon this September in Jersey. It will be a wonderful weekend for our Island community to come together and support some of the world’s best triathletes, starting with the inaugural RBC Race for the Kids on the 28 September, raising funds for Mind Jersey’s Youthful Minds project.”

Michael D’hulst, Co-Founder and CEO of SLT, said: “RBC’s commitment to the local community is in parallel with ours, making this partnership for the RBC Super League Jersey an exciting opportunity for both parties. The kick-off Jersey event this September looks to be unforgettable, and having RBC’s presence will only amplify this.”
