UBS Global Wealth Management and Beresford Street Kitchen raise awareness for Learning Disability Week in Jersey

UBS Global Wealth Management in Jersey and Beresford Street Kitchen (BSK), marked the start of Learning Disability Week with free hot drinks and cupcakes at the BSK Café.

On Monday 16 June, the first day of Learning Disability Week, volunteers from UBS Global Wealth Management in Jersey joined the BSK team to hand out free hot drinks and cupcakes to members of the public. The dedicated BSK catering crew baked more than 200 cupcakes for the UBS sponsored giveaway, which were decorated with purple icing in recognition of Learning Disability Week.

Occurring annually during the third week in June, Learning Disability Week places a national spotlight on the 1.5 million people across the UK and Channel Islands living with a learning disability. This year’s theme is “Do you see me?”, to shine a light on what life is like for those with learning disabilities, ensuring they are seen, heard, included, and valued in all aspects of society.

As a social enterprise, Beresford Street Kitchen creates jobs, training, and purpose for individuals with learning disabilities and/or autistic people in Jersey. BSK’s Fundraising and Communications Manager, Louisa Lempriere, highlighted the importance of Learning Disability Week: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of people with learning disabilities and everything they bring to the community. At BSK, we see every person – every skill, every dream, every contribution.” She also wanted to share her gratitude to UBS and added: “The support from UBS is invaluable and makes a real difference to individuals with learning disabilities and/or autistic people in Jersey.”

UBS is committed to building a culture of inclusivity, and the firm’s Jersey office was proud to support Learning Disability Week while giving back to the local community. “This initiative was more than a gesture, it was a visible show of support for inclusion, employment and empowerment, which is core to BSK’s work,” said Tobia Wehrli, Country Head Jersey at UBS Global Wealth Management. “We had a great time getting involved and chatting to customers about the important work spotlighted during Learning Disability Week. We hope that we did the cause justice and are looking forward to what we can accomplish next!”
